Our Team

Jellie Tots Pre-school nursery in Twickenham is managed by a Parent Management Committee, whose members are elected by parents during our Annual General Meeting (AGM). The committee whilst supported and guided by the manager are responsible for managing finances, employing and managing staff and ensuring that we have and work to policies that help to provide a high quality service.  At present there are 4 paid members of qualified staff. Who as well as gaining qualifications in early years care and education, are also committed to continuing professional development to keep up to date with early years education and to develop their skills further. We welcome students into our team and volunteers who may be thinking about gaining a qualification in early years.
Shapla Rahman,

I would like to welcome you all to our web page: my name is Shapla Rahman and I have been the manager of Jellie Tots preschool since 2012.  I started my journey here 15 years ago in 2007 when I was given to opportunity to work at Jellie Tots as a temporary staff member; I had no qualification in that area but held level 3 in Business and Management.  But at that time I had three children of my own (now four!) and so I had plenty of hands-on experience! Since then I have had an inspirational team to work with and learn from and really enjoy and feel passionate about working here.  Through the guidance of the previous manager, who retired in 2012, I was able to study my level 2 and 3 in Child Care and Education, and then I got an opportunity to do my foundation degree in Early Years, and then spent an extra year to complete my B A Honours in Early years and Education.  During this time I moved from temporary to permanent staff, and then into management of the preschool.

This is now my tenth year as manager and I feel passionate that I should not be tucked away in the office doing admin: I am still on the floor with my staff and the children and I really enjoy being part of every session.  I still find myself observing different types of practise used by my colleagues and using this to broaden the set of tools that I have for working with the children.  I have a fantastic team who work really well together and can bounce ideas off each other, which enriches the practise and environment in my nursery for the children to benefit from.  My team is important to me as if they are happy and working together, then I know that the children will be happy too, engaging in the activities covering the 7 learning areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage that are provided to them.  I believe that when each and every child comes to us they are unique, and it is important for us to become the child’s friend to settle them in, as well as developing a close relationship with parents.

I always tell my staff that when new children come to Jellie tots they need to do whatever it takes to become the child’s friend on their own level (even if it means doing a roly-poly on the floor, which has been known!). The settling in period is so crucial and it is important to work closely with the parents to achieve what we need for each individual child.  Take a look through our website and see for yourself how engaged and happy our children are - or even better, arrange to come and meet us!

Wahid Siddiqui,

I have taken on the role of Chairperson of the pre-school committee for a few years now. All my three children came here. I hope to meet you all over the coming weeks if I haven’t already done so.

We have a lovely committee of warm, friendly mums and dads (but grandparents and carers are all welcome too!), Peter Finch from Rivermeads Hall and together with the fabulous staff  work to maintain the wonderful environment that the preschool provides for the children.

As a charity-run preschool we rely on fundraising, donations and help from parents… so please have a think about whether there is anything you could possibly contribute, be it an hour here or there, or a specific skill.

If you think you might like to get involved in the committee we would love to welcome you, and we hold our annual AGM in October to elect new members. We meet once a term and it’s a great opportunity to meet other parents and be involved in decisions that affect the running of the preschool.

If you have any questions about the committee please feel free to speak to me or my wife (Mahvesh Siddiqui who is the vice chair and also a staff member) or email me at wahid_s@hotmail.co.uk.

There is lots of fun to be had – I hope you can join us.
